Tracking your movement along a handline in IGNIS is simple and accessible directly from the home screen and in this guide we will cover how to do it!
This feature is located in the same area as drawing a line and creating a polygon. Additionally, all recorded lines can be customized with fire-specific symbology. For example, you can scout a dozer line and then update the symbology to match standard incident mapping conventions, making the line easily distinguishable from others on the map!
How to Record a Line in IGNIS
- Open the Home Screen
- Click the red button on the right side of the screen.
- Select "Record GPS"
- On the "Add a line" screen, tap Record GPS to tracking your movement.
- Recording Begins
- The app will now begin recording your track.
- Monitor Your Progress
- On the recording screen, you’ll see:
- Distance covered
- Direction you're heading
- GPS accuracy
- Elapsed time
- On the recording screen, you’ll see:
- Background Recording
- IGNIS will continue tracking even if you switch to other apps or lock your phone.
- Stop Recording
- Tap the stop button to end the track.
- After stopping, the track length may adjust slightly as the GPS auto-corrects for better accuracy.
Editing a Recorded Track
Once you’ve completed your track, you can modify its name, symbology, description, or share it:
- Tap on the recorded track to open the edit menu.
- Use the menu to adjust the symbology or make other changes.
Editing a recorded line follows the same process as editing a manually drawn line—both are covered in more detail elsewhere in the guide for Drawing a Line.
